The incident took place at Livingston’s busy Asda car park on Thursday evening, and police have asked for witnesses to come forward. The 67-year-old was walking at around 5.15pm when the attacker cycled past and attempted to grab the bag. Although he failed, she fell and was taken to nearby St John’s Hospital for treatment.

The suspect is described as being white and wearing dark clothing and a dark hat. Police are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them.

A police spokesman said: “This woman has been badly injured as a result of this incident.”
