Bank letter scam warning

POLICE have warned residents to be on their guard against scam letters purporting to be from a Malaysian bank asking recipients to claim a multi-million-dollar inheritance.

A spate of the letters pretending to come from the Hong Leong Bank have been sent to residents in the Lothians in a bid to con them out of cash. Police said they have not had any reports of people falling victim to the scam, but several concerned residents had handed the letters into the force.

The letters claim that an individual with the same name as the recipient has died, leaving behind a large inheritance.
