A blink in time

Howard Hugh Panter was born on May 25, 1949 and is today recognised as one of the most powerful and influential men in British Theatre... but it wasn’t always like that.

His theatrical life began as a technician with the London Contemporary Dance Theatre. A career in stage management followed during which he turned his hand to technical management, lighting design and directing. In 1979 he met Rosemary Squire, his wife and business partner. They married in 1994, two years after establishing the Ambassador Theatre Group with the acquisitions of the Duke of York’s and The New Ambassadors theatres in London.

He has a philosophical approach to his current status, saying, “We are guardians of these great places for a blink in time, and it is genuinely a great privilege, because we all love theatre.”
