Body found in Haddington cottage ‘suspicious’

Police are investigating the suspicious death of a man whose body was found at a cottage in Haddington.

Brian Bathgate, 45, was found dead at his home in Barney Mains Farm on Friday, March 15.

His death was initially treated as unexplained but subsequent enquiries have suggested that the circumstances are suspicious.

Enquiries have revealed that Brian had last returned home in the early hours of Wednesday, March 13th, and it is believed that he died a short time thereafter.

Detective Chief Inspector Keith Hardie, from Police Scotland, said: “Enquiries that have taken place over the past month, including forensic analysis, have led us to believe that Brian’s death is suspicious.

“We are carrying out local enquiries in the Haddington area as part of efforts to gather more information that can help us determine the full circumstances of his death, and we are appealing to people who knew Brian or who can provide any information in relation to his death to come forward.”
