Bogus caller scam fears

POLICE are urging the public to be on their guard against a new bogus caller scam operating in the Capital, where fraudsters offer payouts over mis-sold insurance.

The warning comes after a 64-year-old man received a call from a male claiming to be from the Ministry of Justice.

The caller told him he was due a Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) refund, which he could collect after wiring a fee to a lawyer in India.

The man became suspicious and refused to transfer money before contacting police.
