Breast cancer survivor honoured for £20k fundraising

A CANCER survivor from the Capital has been recognised for her fundraising efforts.

Christine Kelly has raised almost £20,000 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer since being diagnosed with breast cancer 11 years ago.

The 52-year-old, who is a volunteer for the charity and in remission, attended the unveiling of the Supporter Wall at the Royal Society of Edinburgh, where her name will appear after personally raising almost £3000 for a sponsored walk between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Earlier this year, the mother-of-two also raised more than £4000 following a jungle trek in Sumatra, Indonesia.

Ms Kelly, head of revenue and occupancy at conference organiser Edinburgh First, said: “It’s a great honour to be recognised for my fundraising, which I hope will help raise the profile of the charity and promote the fantastic work it does.

“Although I have my own role to play for the charity, I organise
fundraising events at Edinburgh First which are also very successful thanks to our generous staff who contribute a great deal to the charity.”
