Broadband blitz begins

A CAMPAIGN for better local broadband connection has been launched at Kirkliston Library by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and Edinburgh West MP Mike Crockart.

Pensioner John Tominey, of the town’s Stewart Place, said he was fed up with the slow connection speeds.

“Sometimes it comes up saying it will take days to download something,” Mr Tominey said.

Mr Crockart said: “There’s often a perception it’s only the Highlands that need help with broadband, but people in Kirkliston, South Queensferry and Ratho find they get very poor reception despite living on the edge of Edinburgh, which has among the best broadband in the country.”

The UK Government announced £70m for better broadband last week. Now Mr Crockart wants to persuade the Scottish Government to match that funding to ensure good coverage across Scotland.
