Call for city to sever links with tax dodgers

City chiefs should sever links with all companies that do not pay corporation tax, according to a Green councillor.

The UK Uncut campaign has highlighted 22 UK companies that it claims are involved in tax avoidance. Green councillor Maggie Chapman has called on the city council to formally support the campaign and also to look at whether the council can refuse to renew or sign a contract with any business that does not pay tax. In a motion to be discussed at a meeting of the council’s finance committee on Tuesday, Cllr Chapman said that tax avoidance practices “have a negative impact on local services”.
