Cardinal O’Brien dedicates school’s £1.9m extension

A £1.9 million extension to St Margaret’s Academy in Livingston has been dedicated by the leader of Scotland’s Roman Catholics, Cardinal Keith O’Brien.

The extension includes a new multi-use hall for PE, assemblies and exams, as well as four extra classes for the modern languages department. The work has increased the capacity of the school to 1100 pupils.

Executive councillor for education, Andrew Miller, was joined by the Cardinal to unveil a plaque.

Councillor Miller said: “The completion of the works at St Margaret’s Academy marks another important stage in the overall project, which has resulted in substantial refurbishment and extension of four of our secondary schools. This is in addition to the new Deans Community High School and Armadale Academy, which were opened in 2009.”

He added: “This is the second time that the Cardinal has been to West Lothian in recent times to celebrate a significant investment in our schools.”
