Carers to saddle up on mopeds for visits

WORKERS of a care-at-home company are being given mopeds to visit their clients quicker and easier.

Independent Living Services (ILS) is piloting the scheme to allow its carers to reach more people in the Capital.

The scheme will cover areas in EH11, EH12, EH13 and EH14, with plans to roll it out further if it is a success.

Robin Sidebottom, operations director at ILS Scotland, said: “This initiative should help us to appeal to more potential employees, including those who are currently unemployed and have not previously considered a career in this sector.

“But it also means that we can extend our services, and reach even more people who are in need of care in their own homes across Edinburgh.

“The mopeds have the added benefit of being environmentally friendly, and they’re also a really cost-effective way of getting to clients.”

ILS provides services on contract to Edinburgh City Council.
