Charity lands £185,000 for green play park makeover

AN environmental charity has secured more than £185,000 in funding to revamp the play area at Saughton Park.

Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust (ELGT) won funding from Edinburgh City Council, Waste Recycling Environmental Limited (WREN) and Biffaward to renovate the park.

The work will include an improved “sand works” play area for young children, an adventure trail, a cableway and climbing whirl netted roundabout and new swings, including a basket swing.

Bee and butterfly-friendly wildflower areas will be also planted under the trees to increase biodiversity.

The play area was designed after consultation with the local community.

Charlie Cumming, project manager at ELGT said: “The improvements will increase the opportunities for local young people to experience outdoor play and improve the sense of wellbeing.”
