City Jobcentre wins reprieve

A CITY Jobcentre threatened with closure has been given a 12-month reprieve.

The Department of Work and Pensions said plans to shut the Jobcentre in South St Andrew Street were to be reviewed after issues were raised during the consultation process.

Edinburgh North and Leith Labour MP Mark Lazarowicz welcomed the move. He said: “At a time when unemployment in Edinburgh is rising fast and at a higher rate than for Scotland in general, these plans could mean a poorer service when the need for help and advice is sharply increasing.”
