Primark have been criticised for failing to donate any money from the sale of pride-themed merchandise to LGBT charities.

The high street store sold a number of pride-themed t-shirts but revealed that they did not donate any percentage of the sale/profits to LGBT themed charities.

Many stores selling such items donate some of the profits to an LGBT charity or cause.

Activist, Jenny White took to social media to question their policy on the sale of pro-LGBT items but the chain revealed that they did not donate money from the sale of their range.

Primark emailed saying: “We constantly review our preferred charities and are always open to suggestions.

“In this instance I can confirm that we are not making a donation linked to the sales from the Pride t-shirt range.’

A Primark spokesperson said: “We take LGBT rights very seriously at Primark. We are a member of Stonewall, one of Europe’s largest LGBT rights organisations, and we are part of their Global Diversity Champions programme, which aims to ensure all lesbian, gay, bi and trans employees are accepted without exception in workplaces worldwide.

“As a large retailer we have an extensive charity programme, both at a national and local level, donating to a variety of charities throughout the year, across all the markets in which we operate.

“We constantly review our preferred charities and are always open to suggestions. While we have not made a donation for this particular campaign, we are committing to donating to a LGBT charity for next year’s Pride campaign.”
