Council backs down on Gillespie's High Gaelic pupil plan

EDUCATION bosses have announced a U-turn on plans to turn away Gaelic pupils from James Gillespie's High School at the start of next session.

Youngsters due to transfer to the school from Edinburgh’s Gaelic-medium primary faced being refused a place because the projected S1 roll exceeds the classroom capacity.

And the report which councillors were due to discuss at today’s meeting of the city’s education committee was withdrawn at the last minute.

The meeting was told that the Gaelic-medium pupils would now be guaranteed a place at Gillespie’s from August.
