Council cuts its computer costs

The amount that the city council spends on IT is below the average for a local authority, which is seen as a positive sign of it managing to keep costs down.

A new council report shows that current ICT spend is 2.32 per cent of gross expenditure, which is significantly below the average in local authorities.

The figure is also said to be substantially lower than in other sectors.

In a report for councillors, David Jack, acting director of corporate services at the council, said: “At a conceptual level this could be due to a number of factors which require further analysis.”

Examples of possible factors include being a city, achieving good economies of scale and being a less intensive user of ICT than others.
