Councils’ merger

Midlothian and East Lothian Councils have agreed to merge their education and children’s departments in a bid to save money.

The radical reform plans will see central management and operational teams for education at the local authorities become one.

The decision – taken at separate meetings of each council – will also see to the appointment of a joint head of education.
