East Lothian DJ Craig Gordon sentenced to three years for upskirting and child abuse offences

Former radio presenter sentenced to prison and placed on sex offenders register for 10 years

A radio presenter used the Edinburgh Festival as “an opportunity” to take upskirting pictures of women and schoolgirls on his mobile phone.

Craig Gordon took the images of unsuspecting victims on his device as he walked the streets of the Capital and his local town of Tranent in East Lothian.

Gordon, 49, also took indecent images of an intoxicated woman while she was asleep on a bus late at night and downloaded child abuse material to devices stored at his home.

The DJ - a presenter on local radio stations East Coast FM and Saltire FM - also shared some of the child abuse material with others he had met online.

Gordon has now been jailed for three years and had his name added to the sex offenders register for 10 years following a hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

The court was told Gordon was caught out when a work colleague spotted him looking at children on his phone while the pair worked shifts with a security firm in 2024.

Police then seized electronic equipment including mobile phones, cameras, hard drives, laptops, memory sticks and a tablet during a search of his one-bedroom flat in Tranent.

Gordon pleaded guilty to a series of child abuse offences committed between 2022 and last year when he appeared in the dock last month.

He returned for sentencing on Wednesday where a sheriff noted the severity of the offences and said Gordon had used the world-renowned arts festival as “an opportunity to acquire such images”.

Sheriff Charles Walls said: “You are now convicted of serious charges of voyeurism particularly taking photographs of unknown females and children in public in what is commonly known as upskirting.

“From the extracts of your online discussions it is clear you made persistent and focused efforts to go out into your community to take photographs of females including schoolgirls often in uniform.

“Although you are a first offender there is no other way to deal with you today other than to impose a custodial sentence.”

Gordon was jailed for a total of 36 months and was placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.

The sheriff also imposed a sexual harm prevention order for five years to further protect the public.

Solicitor Raymond Ferguson told the court his client had not been in trouble before and had “felt lonely and isolated” during the period of offending.

Previously the court was told he was employed by ISS Security when a workmate reported him to management after he saw him looking at photos of children on his phone in August 2024.

Police were informed and equipment seized from his home was found to contain 316 child abuse images.

It was also discovered Gordon had been using the Telegram app to contact others online and had shared two child abuse images with them.

The court was told several images of females being upskirted in public places without their knowledge were also recovered from an iPad.

Prosecutor Corey Laouadi detailed instances where Gordon photographed women in the street and on public transport without their knowledge or consent, including an unknown female who appeared to be intoxicated while asleep on a bus.

Gordon pleaded guilty to voyeurism offences involving unknown females, including one who was intoxicated and sleeping, all between July 10, 2022 and September 8 last year.

He admitted sending messages to Telegram accounts of unknown males discussing the sexual abuse of females and to possessing indecent images of children, all between February 7, 2024 and September 8 last year.
