Crew rides crest of wave

the Capital’s entry in the Clipper Round the World yacht race was yesterday in fifth place in the challenge rankings.

The crew, currently sailing Edinburgh Inspiring Capital from Madeira to Rio de Janeiro on the event’s second race, emerged in fourth place after switching on so-called “stealth mode”, which hides the boat’s position from online followers for 24 hours.

By the end of the day it had dropped back to fifth, but skipper Gordon Reid said spirits were high.

He added: “The time we invested in spinnaker training and lessons learned from the first race have paid dividends as we truck onwards towards our chosen crossing point at the Equator.”

It is anticipated that the ten yachts will take around another 12 days to reach Rio.
