Residents in the Capital have been pushed to their limits after claiming they have been waiting for four days for an alarm in an old travel agent to stop beeping.

Euan Andrews, who lives near the abandoned STA Travel building in Forrest Road where the alarm was sounding, said ringing coming from the property has been non-stop for 57 hours.

In a message to Edinburgh City Council he asked if the incessant beeping could be treated with “a matter of urgency."

Mr Andrew’s said the alarm has stopped ringing for now, but he fears it may start up again if not seen to.

Speaking to Edinburgh Evening News he said: “It's been four hellish days and the lack of council action (as far as I am aware) has been appalling.

"Police Scotland were very clear that this was an antisocial noise situation, as there had been no break in, and therefore a council duty.

"I haven't been out to look at the premises yet but am unaware of anyone having entered them, and I am still waiting on a callback from Edinburgh Council environmental health after 48 hours, but I have to assume that it's simply burned itself out,” he added, “for now anyway.”

“Something needs to be done about this as a matter of urgency.”

A spokeswoman from Edinburgh City Council confirmed a key holder was traced and the alarm was turned off.
