SHOCKED drivers watched on as armed police pulled over a car in Liberton after a high-speed pursuit.

Witnesses reported up to five unmarked police cars tailing a dark saloon in Kirk Brae at around 9.30pm on Tuesday.

Police confirmed officers were acting on a tip-off of a gun being carried though no weapon was found.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in Edinburgh responded to reports of a potential firearms related incident.

“As part of enquiries a vehicle was stopped on Lasswade Road around 9.30pm on Tuesday, 31 March.

“Search warrants were executed and no evidence of a firearm was found. There is no ongoing threat to the wider community.

“Five men were arrested in connection with unrelated incidents.”
