Body found in search for missing West Lothian man Billy McDowell

Police in West Lothian have discovered a body in the search for missing Whitburn man Billy McDowell.

According to officers, the body of a man was discovered in a wooded area near Whitburn around 2.55pm on Sunday, October 18.

McDowell, who requires daily medication, was reported missing on Sunday, August 2, 2020.

Police said the last confirmed sighting of the 58-year-old was on Tuesday, July 28, at around 11:40am in West Main Street, Whitburn.

Police said McDowell’s family have been informed of the discovery.

A Police Scotland spokesperson told the Daily Record: “The family of local man Billy McDowell, missing since Sunday, August 2, have been made aware of the discovery.

“Formal identification is yet to take place and a post mortem examination will be carried out in due course to establish the exact cause of death.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious.”
