Boy, 16, charged over Oxgangs caravan fire

A 16-year-old boy has been charged over a caravan fire in Oxgangs.

Firefighters were called to the fire in Firrhill Drive shortly after 1:10am on Sunday, November 29.

No one was hurt but the caravan was destroyed and a number of local residents were left shocked by the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 16-year-old boy has been arrested and charged in connection with a fire at a caravan on Firrhill Drive in Edinburgh, which occurred shortly after 1.10am on Sunday, 29 November, 2020.

“He is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date.”

Fire crews were called to the burning caravan fire just minutes after dealing with an unrelated fire inside a block of flats in the same street.

Last month, 28-year-old Rosie Atkins died in a flat fire in Oxgangs Park and a man was also taken to hospital in an incident which police are not treating as suspicious.
