Cairneyhill incident: woman dies after car crashes into a tree in Fife

A 74-year-old woman has died after a car she was in came off the road and crashed into a tree.

The fatal collision happened on the A985 near Cairneyhill, Fife, at about 1.50pm on Monday, 19 October.

The woman and the driver of the vehicle, a 74-year-old man, were both taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where she died shortly after from her injuries.

The elderly man remains in a critical condition.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the tragic crash and asking anyone with information that might help them understand the circumstances of the crash to come forward.

A police spokeswoman said: “The incident happened around 1.50pm on Monday, 19 October, 2020, when a car came off the road and struck a tree.

"Officers are continuing to appeal for information and anyone who was driving on the road around the time of the crash who has dash-cam footage is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1425 of Monday, 19 October, 2020.”
