On the Pentland Hills Regional Park Facebook page, park rangers posted pictures to share their disgust after the mess had to be cleared up by a group of local volunteers.

After thanking those who had been respectful of the popular beauty spot while enjoying their daily exercise, the park went on to condemn the irresponsible actions of a minority.

The park said that a group of individuals had flouted the lockdown rules put in place by the Scottish Government, and selfishly decided to camp at the Harlaw Reservoir overnight.

After leaving the area, the group left the "entire campsite full of rubbish and human waste".

The park rangers also said there was an attack on three sheep by two dogs near Blinkbonny on the periphery of the hills, and an increase in fly-tipping incidents, including bags of garden and household waste dumped on Harlaw Road.

They added that individuals are continuing to flout lockdown restrictions by driving and parking on roadside verges and field entrances, which can block access for emergency and farm vehicles.
