Morningside Road crash: Child and woman hit as car mounts pavement with emergency services at scene

A heavy police presence has been spotted in a busy street in Edinburgh after a car mounted the pavement before colliding with a child and woman.

Firefighters and officers can be seen blocking Morningside Road where the incident happened this afternoon.

Emergency services are also in attendance.

The two injured pedestrians have been taken to hospital by ambulance.

A local resident who lives close to the accident scene arrived within seconds. He said a small red car had mounted the pavement and hit two people.

The shocked 67-year-old told the Edinburgh Evening News: "I heard it as I was taking the recycling out. It is just around the corner from me.

"When I got there there were people screaming. It was obvious that the car had mounted the pavement and hit pedestrians.

"People were comforting others. They were very upset. It was a horrible thing for anyone to have witnessed."

Their condition is not yet known.

A police spokesman said: "Around 2.30pm on Tuesday, 30 June, 2020, police received a report of a road traffic crash involving a car and two pedestrians outside St Columba's Hospice charity shop in Morningside Road, Edinburgh.

“A woman and young child have been taken to hospital by ambulance.

"Traffic diversions are in place.

“Police enquiries are ongoing.”
