Class A drugs charge dropped against footballer

FOOTBALL star Dean Cummings has walked free from court after a charge of possessing Class A drugs was dropped.

Cummings - who plays for Scottish League Two new boys Edinburgh City - was alleged to have been caught with a quantity of ecstasy while attending a rave night in the capital.

The 23-year-old midfielder was at the EH1 Music Festival held at Ingliston Showground last September when he was collared by cops who suspected him of possessing the dangerous Class A drug.

But when Cummings appeared in the dock at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in front of Sheriff Thomas Welsh on Wednesday he was told the case was being deserted by the Crown.

The footballer, from Saughton Mains Loan, had continually denied possessing ecstasy at Ingliston Showground, Edinburgh, on September 9 last year.

Cummings - older brother of Hibs striker Jason - began his career in Falkirk’s Academy before moving to Livingston in 2011 where he won the Under-19 league title. He went on to make six first-team appearances, scoring just the one goal.

The midfielder general was an integral part of the Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale side that reached the William Hill Scottish Cup fourth round last season, going down 2-0 to East Kilbride and narrowly missing out on a fifth-round meeting with Celtic.
