Coastguard called to Cramond Island for third time in four days

This is the third Coastguard incident connected with the island in the last week.

For the third time in one week, emergency services have been called to rescue someone in the water off Cramond Island.

At 5:09pm on Thursday, HM Coastguard teams from South Queensferry and Fisherrow responded to a 999 call after a child was seen struggling in the water near the island, towards the northwest of Edinburgh.

The tiny island, which sits a mile off the coast of the city, is only accessible at low tide along a concrete walkway.

A Coastguard helicopter and a lifeboats were dispatched to save the 10-year-old boy, but were stood down when it emerged that he had made it safely to land.

Coastguards at the scene gave the boy first aid, though it is understood that he was uninjured. He was taken to hospital by ambulance as a precaution.

On Monday, the Coastguard saved two people and two dogs from the waters off Cramond, and on Monday, rescued three people on the island.
