Edinburgh councillor Mark Brown has hit back at anti Tory graffiti that has appeared in his ward that says: “English Tories are killing us”.

The councillor, from the ward of Gyle and Drum Brae, tweeted a picture of the graffiti calling it ‘utterly depressing’.

In a comment to the Edinburgh Evening News, the councillor said: "My reaction as a Councillor, Conservative or otherwise, should be like anyone else in society - one of disgust that in a civilized society in 2020 we have poisonous, anti-English graffiti on our streets.

“Just weeks ago we were being urged on social media to #bekind during these challenging times - unfortunately for one or two idiots with a spray can, this was too difficult a message to comprehend."

This is not the only Edinburgh graffiti has sparked debate, with the slogan: “"Back to work, catch the virus, save the billionaires” appearing at a building site at Lochrin Basin.

This slogan appeared not long after Prime Minister Boris Johnson released England’s new ‘Stay Alert’ message as it started to ease lockdown, the first country in the UK to do so.
