Rosie, pictured, went missing from her home address near Portobello Golf Course at about 7pm on Sunday.

Owner Bekki Robinson and her partner Derek Fyfe led a frantic search for their family pet after hearing about a possible sighting of the dog wrapped up in a stranger’s coat.

But fortunately, Rosie, who apparently hates the rain, had in fact been trapped in a neighbour’s garden for two days hiding under a bush.

Bekki, sounding relieved, said: “I can’t believe it.

"Rosie was so happy to be home, she jumped in my arms and was shaking and licking my face.

“And the children were so happy, there were tears of joy.”

Bekki said she had just had 500 missing Rosie posters delivered to her door as her family pet miraculously turned up at the house.

“I was on the phone to a dog psychic at the time,” she said.

"I had also just received 500 missing posters at the front door from printers and was setting up a justgiving page on the laptop, then she reappeared at the back door!

"My partner was on the phone to an elderly neighbour who got our number through another neighbour and she said Rosie had been cowering under a bush in her garden for two days.

"She didn’t know who to phone or what to do so just left her hoping she would go, but it turns out she was trapped and couldn’t get out!”

It remains a mystery as to how Rosie managed to escaped the garden she had been stuck in for about 72 hours, which is enclosed by a 5ft wall, nevertheless, she returned to Bekki’s door at about 3pm on Tuesday afternoon.

"We think she tried to chase a fox over the wall and jumped the 5 ft high wall,” she added.

"We were right near that wall searching for her and shouting but she must have been scared and hiding at the time.

"She’s not a barker either, and I think something spooked her and she just hid there and didn’t move.”

Bekki said she wants to thank the community for helping in the search for her beloved Rosie.

Shortly after the time her pooch went missing, the concerned mum posted an urgent plea on Facebook urging the public to help her find the missing pet.

It was shared thousands of times and a few commenters said they had seen a similar looking dog wrapped up in the arms of a man wearing a long coat.

But fortunately for Rosie, she was closer to home than what her owners were lead to think.

Bekki added: “I just want to thank everyone for the relentless and tiresome search party.

"Friends, family and community; we are overwhelmed by the support and just can’t thank everyone enough.

"I’m so heartbroken for the people whose babies have not returned home I now understand their pain. I have ordered a tracking device for my little traveller.”
