Dramatic video shows fire crews tackle blaze at Edinburgh tenement block after evacuation

Four emergency vehicles attended a blaze in roof space on Brunton Terrace in Edinburgh in the early hours of this morning.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) confirmed that they attended the scene in the early hours of the morning after responding to a call made at 3.34am.

A spokesperson said: “We mobilised three appliances and one height appliance. The incident involved a fire within the roof space.

“Crews used two breathing apparatus and one high pressure hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.”

One crew is still currently at the scene with a pump but we have been told that they are in the process of handing the incident back over to the occupier and it will be closed off soon.

This is one of several fires reported in the capital over night as a result of bonfire night celebrations.

A huge fire broke out on Arthur's Seat and a fire was confirmed in Saughton.

Initial figures published by the SFRS indicated that crews responded to approximately 511 bonfires across the country between 3.30pm and 11.30pm on Thursday November 5.

There were also 12 reported attacks on crews, however no injuries have been reported.

Assistant Chief Officer Stuart Stevens, SFRS Director of Service Delivery, said: “Bonfire Night is traditionally one of our busiest night of the year.

"Our frontline crews and Operations Control personnel and support staff have shown extreme dedication over this period and I would like to pay tribute to their professionalism and

resilience.
