Dylan Jenkin has attempted car theft charge dropped

THE teenage driver who killed city nurse Jill Pirrie has been cleared of stealing a car and attacking police.

Dylan Jenkin, 18, is serving a six-year sentence at Polmont Young Offenders Institute after losing control of his Nissan Micra while trying to escape from police and hitting Ms Pirrie, 33, as she walked home from work near Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

At the time of the incident, he was out on bail after being charged with stealing a car and throwing a blowtorch, a hammer and other items at a police car chasing him.

But the charges were dropped ahead of a trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday.

A spokesperson for the Crown Office said: “It is the duty of the Crown to keep cases under review and, after full and careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the case and taking into account the available admissible evidence, the Procurator Fiscal instructed that there should be no further proceedings.”
