Police in East Lothian have warned locals against breaking social distancing rules this weekend, as temperatures in the region are set to reach the high 20s.

They said they were expecting coastal areas and beaches to be very busy, and reminded people that local alcohol bylaws are in place across East Lothian.

“As the weather forecast is expected to rise into the high 20’s today, we are expecting our coastal areas and beaches to be very busy,” East Lothian police wrote on Facebook.

“Our officers will be conducting hi-visibility patrols, along with East Lothian Council community wardens and countryside rangers, across the county over the weekend, both during the day and in the evenings.

“Please enjoy our beautiful coastline and parks but do so responsibly and safely,” they finished.

The warning comes after police dealt with a number of incidents across Edinburgh and the Lothians in the last spell of fine weather in June.

Officers were called to The Meadows, in Edinburgh’s Old Town, where fights broke out when hundreds of people gathered to enjoy the sunshine.
