Edinburgh city bypass closes due to vehicle fire

A vehicle fire on a busy main road is causing long tail backs and disruption to traffic.
Part of the Edinburgh City Bypass has been forced to close between Lasswade and Gilmerton due to the ongoing incident.

Hide AdTraffic in the area is building up with queues tailing back as far as Lothianburn as emergency services deal with the fire.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene this morning from about 7am and are still tackling the blaze.
Traffic watch organisation Traffic Scotland announced the road closure on Twitter.
In a statement it said: “The A720 Edinburgh City Bypass is CLOSED eastbound between Lasswade and Gilmerton due to a vehicle fire.
"Police and Fire Services are on scene.

Hide Ad“Traffic is already tailing back to Lothianburn as a result.”
A mattress has also been spotted in the middle of the dual carriageway near Dreghorn, according to Traffic Scotland, which is causing further delays on the city bypass.
