Edinburgh crime: Man arrested at Edinburgh Waverley after couple subjected to homophobic abuse

Police arrested a man following an incident where two men were subjected to homophobic abuse at Edinburgh Waverley Station.

The pair reported to the hate crime via text to British Transport Police on Wednesday night, and officers quickly rushed to the station.

Police successfully located the suspect and arrested him in connection with the incident.

In a Tweet, British Transport Police announced the arrest, writing: "Last night two men texted 61016 to report a man who subjected them to homophobic abuse

“Officers quickly attended #Edinburgh Waverley station, located the man & arrested him in connection.

“We will never tolerate hate crime on the railway.

The force added: “Everyone has the right to travel safely, and no one should be targeted with harassment because of who they are.

“If you're a victim of, or witness to, a hate crime, we urge you to report it to us.

“Either text 61016 or call 0800 40 50 40”
