Edinburgh man, 62, appears in court to face 10 sexual assault charges

A 62-year-old Edinburgh man has appeared in court to face ten charges of sexual assault, including an allegation of sexual assault against a 14-year-old girl.

Mirza Saeed appeared in private at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday and made no plea and was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.

He also faces one charge of threatening and abusive behaviour.

The 62-year-old was arrested by police in connection with five instances of sexual offences which occurred in the Viewforth, Union Canal and Craiglockhart areas of the city between December 31 and February 20.

The most recent incident occurred on February 20 when a 14-year-old girl was the victim of a sexual assault as she walked in a wooded area in Craiglockhart.

Detective Inspector Keith Fairbairn, of Edinburgh’s Public Protection Unit, said police are continuing to conduct enquiries in relation to these offences and appealed for anyone who may have witnessed a crime, or not reported an incident to officers already, to come forward.
