Edinburgh man appears in court accused of assaulting and robbing 82-year-old woman in Leith

A man has appeared in court accused of assaulting and robbing an 82-year-old woman in Edinburgh.

Daniel Munro, 33, appeared in private at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday where he faced charges of assault to severe injury and robbery.

Munro, from Edinburgh, made no plea and the case was continued for further examination. He was released on bail with a further court date still to be set down.

The court appearance follows an incident where an 82-year-old woman was allegedly struck to the head, pushed to the ground and robbed of her handbag.

It was said to have taken place at around 4.35pm on Monday, February 8 at Hamburgh Place in Leith.

The pensioner was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where she was treated for a broken hip.

Following the alleged incident, DI Kevin Tait of Edinburgh CID, described it as a “terrifying attack” for the woman involved and appealed to the public for information and said officers were reviewing local CCTV.
