Police appeal for information following Granton assault
An Edinburgh man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a horror gang attack left him “badly beaten up” and “unable to stand”.
Emergency services were alerted to reports of a “disturbance” on Monday, August 17, which is said to have started at around 7.30pm on Saltire Square in Granton.
The incident then reportedly carried on towards Waterfront Avenue and Waterfront Broadway, with a 26-year-old man having been set upon by a group outside the Morrisons supermarket.
The victim was allegedly attacked by around “10 to 12 men with baseball bats” who, according to witnesses, left him with a “nasty head injury”. His scooter is also said to have been stolen from him during the attack.
A witness said the man was “left lying in the road in the pouring rain after being beaten up quite badly”.
He added: “They stole his scooter from him and left him black and blue with a nasty head injury and he was unable to even stand.”

The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries and his current condition is unknown.
According to police, a “number of men seen in the area” ran off in the direction of Waterfront Avenue.
Police Scotland have now launched an investigation into the attack and are asking members of the public with information to come forward.
Detective Sergeant Kim Tennant said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened.
“If you were in the area at the time and saw anything then please get in touch. We are also asking the public to check any private CCTV that they have covering these streets and let us know if something has been captured that could help with our investigation.
“Likewise, we are also asking anyone driving in the area to check dash-cam and contact us if they have anything that could assist officers.”
Anyone who can help is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2977 of Monday, August 17.
