The incident happened when officers initially tried to stop an out of control red Kia (Ceed GT-Line) on Pennywell Road at around 1.25am on Monday morning.

However, the car drove away from them at speed, resulting in a pursuit through the city and the police calling on other resources.

The trained police dogs were deployed to carry out a search when the car was found abandoned on Greendykes road.

Bear tracked an 18-year-old man, who was believed to be the driver, while Harper found two men, aged 21 and 23, believed to be the passengers.

In a social media post from the Edinburgh Police Division today, they celebrated the achievement of both canine colleagues.

The post came after the police were criticised on Facebook in the comment section for ‘lacking detail’ in an original post they made about the pursuit.

In their most recent update, they posted a picture of the two dogs, stating: “We think it's important to update the public with our work when we can. The original post was written with the best intentions. PD Harper was happy with her input and PD Bear found some of the comments quite amusing...”

They will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date.
