Edinburgh police stop over a dozen taxis and hire cars in safety operation

Police in Edinburgh have pulled over several taxis and hire cars in a series of spot checks designed to test the vehicles’ winter readiness.

Officers stopped 18 taxi and private hire car drivers across the city centre between Saturday, December 5, and Sunday, December 6, issuing three separate warnings for minor infringements.

In a statement, Police Scotland said: “Over the weekend officers carried out mobile winter safety checks on licensed vehicles in the city centre.

“All drivers stopped positively engaged with officers.”
