Dog attack leaves breeding swan dead at Edinburgh's Dunsapie Loch

Historic Environment Scotland (HES), which manages the park, confirmed a dog targeted a mating pair that had successfully raised cygnets at the site for several years.

One swan was killed and its mate was injured in the attack. The couple were weeks away from hatching a new cygnet, but their eggs were subsequently taken by other wildlife following the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are investigating a report of a swan being attacked by a dog within Holyrood Park on the afternoon of Sunday May 17.

"Officers are following a positive line of enquiry.”
