Elderly and underweight dog which may have suffered a stroke found wandering streets of Edinburgh

The SSPCA have issued an appeal for information about the dog.

The SSPCA have issued an appeal after an elderly dog that may have suffered a stroke was found wandering in the streets of Edinburgh by a member of the public.

The dog, a labrador cross, was found in the Wester Hailes area of Edinburgh and was described as “underweight” and “elderly” by the SSPCA.

It comes after a pair of hens were found dumped outside the gates of Edinburgh Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Balerno last week, and two weeks after Police Scotland released images of 24 dead pigeons sellotaped and dumped on outskirts of Edinburgh.

Inspector Fiona Thorburn at the Scottish SPCA said the dog may also have suffered a stroke as its face is asymmetrical.

Scotland’s animal welfare is now caring for the dog after a member of the public handed it to Police Scotland on Sunday 3 May.

Ms Thorburn said “The male dog was found wandering in the street by a concerned member of the public.

“He is underweight and looks like he may have previously had a stroke as his face is asymmetrical.

“Although he has a microchip, the chip is not registered.

“One of our animal rescue and rehoming centres is providing him with the care he needs.

“We are keen to speak to his owner as soon as possible, or anyone else who can tell us more about the dog.
