The Scotland international, 28, who now plays for Championship side Reading, was questioned along with a 21-year-old man after searches of homes in Edinburgh and Forth Valley, the Scottish Sun reports.

It is thought that the probe centres around bets being placed on yellow cards being issued by match officials.

The 21-year-old who was also arrested is believed to be from Bo’ness, West Lothian.

The Edinburgh-born forward, who lists clubs such as Portsmouth, Bradford and Coventry on his CV, moved to Championship club Reading in 2018.

He had two loan spells at Hibs, the team he supported as a youngster, where he won his two Scotland caps in 2019, playing 21 times and scoring eight goals.

The striker was not named in the Reading side that beat Cardiff 2-1 on Saturday.
