Former shadow minister of Worlingworth in Suffolk, Mr Joyce served as Labour MP for Falkirk between 2000 and 2012 before leaving to serve as an independent MP until 2015.

He was arrested in November 2018 after a movie file, found on a device, was classed as a Category A image.

A statement on Joyce's website published yesterday noted: “The matter of my charge, announced today, will be dealt with in the first instance on 7 July at Ipswich Crown Court at 10.00.
