Owner Bekki Robinson has published an urgent plea on social media calling on members of the public to help her and her family find their beloved pet Rosie, who she believes was stolen from Portobello Golf Course at about 7pm on Sunday night.

Speaking to Edinburgh Evening News, the concerned dog owner said: “We are absolutely desperate to have her back.

"We are so worried for her.

"Our garden gate blew open because of the wind and she ran out onto the golf course, and the next minute some people reported seeing her wrapped in the jacket of a man walking with a woman in the area.”

She said while Rosie is a curious dog and likes to run off sometimes, she always comes back and is able to find her way home.

Ms Robinson’s message on Facebook reads: “Our dog has been taken by a male and female around Portobello golf course. They were seen at around 8pm with her zipped in the males parker jacket, ‘looking like they were trying to hide a dog.’ The female was wearing white jacket. Please everyone share we are so worried we have to get her back. I really hope they are hanging onto her safe to give to vets or a dog and cat home tomorrow morning but given the sightings description I don’t see that’s the case.

"She is chipped. She would find her way back home from where she was found.

"Drivers please be vigilant in case she has been released. Thank you.”

She left the number 07734184627 for anyone to contact if they have information that might help the Robinsons find Rosie.

Dog walker business Edinburgh Pawsome said: “Can everyone please keep your eyes open for Rosie, our holiday cover pawsome pup.

"She was last seen with a male and a female near Portobello golf course one of which had her hidden up their jumper/jacket.
