Gorgie incident: appeal for witnesses after 18-year-old seriously injured in stabbing near Edinburgh dessert shop

An teenager has been taken to hospital after being stabbed in a brutal attack in the Gorgie area of the city.

Officers are appealing for information from the public after the 18-year-old was spotted walking into a shop in Gorgie Road with a serious stab wound in his leg on Monday, 19 October at about 5pm.

It is understood the assault happened in the Westfield Court area and the boy has been left seriously injured according to police.

The young man was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary to be treated for his injury.

Eye witnesses said the stab victim walked into Kaspas Desserts shop on Gorgie Road covered in blood and asking for help.

Concerned resident Shaun Pinkerton said he and some staff from the shop gave the man first aid until the ambulance arrived, attempting to bind up the injured man’s leg.

Shaun, 28, said there was “blood gushing everywhere” and it looked like the teenager had been stabbed “multiple times.”

Detective Sergeant Rory Legge, of Corstorphine CID, said: "This happened at a busy time of the day and we know there would've been a lot of traffic and people in the area.

"I would ask anyone who witnessed this incident or saw any suspicious behaviour around the Westfield Court area just before 5pm on Monday to contact us.

"Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 2228 of 19 October 2020. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
