Police in Edinburgh have taped off Wardie Playing Fields amid an ongoing incident that saw Granton Road closed at around 6am.

The entrance to Broughton FP Rugby Club has also been cordoned off by police, and officers have been spotted entering a block of flats on Granton Road.

Photos from the scene show forensics teams and a white tent erected close to the playing fields.

It is understood that classes the adjacent school, Wardie Primary, are unaffected by the incident.

Nearby Granton Road was partially closed by officers this morning, prompting Lothian Buses to announce a diversion for the Number 8 service between Muirhouse and the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Granton Road has since reopened to traffic, and bus services have returned to normal.

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
