Gullane beach: Bomb squad blow up explosive device near Muirfield Golf Course

An explosive device was found near the beach to the north of Muirfield Golf Course, Gullane, on Friday afternoon.

Following a 999 call from a concerned member of the public, the area was cordoned off and a bomb disposal team was brought in to deal with the device, which “appeared to be unexploded ordinance near the beach”.

In a Facebook post on Monday (February 22) afternoon, a spokesperson for East Lothian police wrote: “Around 1430 hours, 19/02/2021 a member of the public alerted police to what appeared to be unexploded ordinance near the beach to the north of Muirfield Golf Course, Gullane.

“Police officers cordoned the area off and awaited the arrival of bomb disposal, who, upon arrival confirmed that it was an inert 2" mortar round, which they disposed of.”

East Lothian police said at no time were any members of the public at risk from the unexploded ordinance.
