Residents have reported a heavy police presence near Lothian Road after hearing a “loud bang” in the area.

One witness said he saw a car hit a set of traffic lights and swerve into the Sheraton Hotel during what he described as “a police car chase.”

Edinburgh Travel News has reported that there has been an accident at the Canning Street junction, and West Approach Road is blocked. Lothian Road and Morrison Link are also affected.

Police have been contacted for comment.
