Hibs hero Ofir Marciano could face trial in an Edinburgh court

Hibs goalkeeper Ofir Marciano is due to stand trial later this year after being accused of speeding and driving a vehicle with no valid licence.

Marciano, 31, is alleged to have been caught driving a vehicle at 46mph in a 30mph zone in Edinburgh last year.

The Israeli shot-stopper is also said to have been driving the vehicle with no licence and no insurance at the capital’s Maybury Road on September 27 last year.

Marciano, of Bonnington, Edinburgh, was due to appear at Edinburgh Justice of the Peace Court on Tuesday but the case against him was adjourned administratively and was continued without plea.

The 6ft 4” Israel international, who has 26 caps for his country, is now due to attend the city court to answer the three driving allegations in July.

Marciano initially joined the Easter Road side on loan in 2016 and made 21 appearances as the club won the Scottish Championship and were promoted back to the Premiership.

The highly-rated goalkeeper then signed a permanent four year deal in June 2017 and has made a total of 124 appearances for the club.

But last month Hibs boss Jack Ross revealed the keeper will be leaving the Easter Road club in the summer after refusing to sign a new deal.

Marciano gave an interview in his homeland stating he believed he is good enough to play in the English Premiership and is expected to move on when his current deal expires at the end of the season.

He made his international debut for Israel in October 2014 as his country beat Cyprus 2-1 and he featured between the sticks against Scotland in a 1-1 draw in the World Cup Qualifying campaign last month.

Marciano is married to Israeli model Shelly Regev and the couple have one son together and are expecting their second child this summer.

Prosecutors say Marciano drove a vehicle at 46mph on a 30mph road at Maybury Road, Edinburgh, on September 27 last year.

He is also said to have been driving without a valid driving licence and having no valid insurance for the vehicle at same location on the same date.
