Increased police presence as vandals target historic Musselburgh estate

Over the last month, police have been made aware of a number of antisocial incidents in the grounds of the Newhailes Estate in Musselburgh.

Individuals entering and vandalising the grounds, including derelict buildings, are causing extensive damage and leaving behind a mess which is “spoiling” the estate.

There have also been reports of groups of young people partying in the wooded areas nearby.

PC Kevin Hughes said: "Not only are these activities leading to further damage and excessive littering which spoil the area, but they are also causing great concern to the local community.

"We have been conducting patrols in the area and will continue to do so, as we make enquiries into these recent incidents.

"Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 and ask for the Musselburgh Community Policing Team."
